Moral Duty

In my opinion, yes, advertisers do have a moral duty to avoid stereotyping people as this causes a huge negative impact on the general audience that are exposed to these daily advertisements. This does not only impact adults, but also younger generation who unconsciously might come across these fake and unrealistic standards set up by ad promoters. This not only destroys the minds of people but also can break our foundational beliefs, into some image that these advertisers visualizes us with. Furthermore, the vast capability of advertisements being present everywhere: before a cinema, between TV shows, on magazine or newspaper pages, and so on, can lead to easy deception with us humans. First of all, most advertising companies do not just capture the images of dolled up people and put up for us to see, rather, they edit out every realistic aspect of the model with technology, in order to provide us with an appealing composition. This presents the ad viewers with a figure filled with hoax characteristics and unachievable criterions. The naïve audience tend to follow these trends unveiled on the TV and try to alter themselves in order to be considered beautiful, without the knowledge of the truth behind these stunning models on screen. Humans end up negatively taking in this information and struggle very much in order to achieve an unrealistic demand. Many don’t even last long in their journey towards the idealistic goal. These fake advertisements not only destroy mental and physical health, but also demoralize human ethics and often dehumanizes humans into just objects for marketing. Discrimination and stereotyping is a given along with the other impacts. All this could be avoided if advertisers are aware and acknowledges the natural beauty of realistic characteristics of human beings, instead of modifying a real model into an idealistic dream. Furthermore, if they do realize that some of their ideas used could be degrading, or are at least reminded by other opinions, then the production of this certain ad could be paused in order to reconsider and revise it into something more acceptable and realistic.
